Yarn Care

We paint our yarn in small editions using fiber reactive dyes which bond chemically with the fiber. This makes the color lightfast and washfast. Each skein within an edition is individually painted so there is some variation between skeins(we recommend that you purchase enough yarn for your project). We think this is part of the attraction. These are not pull-out skeins so we recommend using an umbrella swift and ballwinder or conewinder.

Wool:
While these yarns may have different fiber contents they can all be washed gently by hand in luke warm water with a small amount of ph balanced soap. To dry, lay knit items flat and hang woven pieces.  Chenille appears to shrink when wet but will relax as it dries. These are not pull-out skeins so we recommend using an umbrella swift and ballwinder.

To wash and block cotton, rayon and silk garments:
Wash by hand with a neutral soap like Ivory in hot water with the  exception of the rayon metallic which  should be washed in warm water only. This will make sure that any remaining unbonded dye is released. Rinse thoroughly with a bit of vinegar and make sure that the last rinse water  is clear. Add a bit of fabric softener to the last rinse. Spin out and dry flat. Hang woven pieces to dry.

To felt chenille:
Place garment in a mesh bag and wash for a minute or 2 on the delicate cycle in hot water with a bit of ph balanced soap. Rinse with a bit of vinegar. Remove from the bag and place in the dryer with a towel, fabric softener sheet and dry. Chenille will appear to shrink when wet but will relax when dry.
