We designed this collection of market bags, crocheted using our Mercerized Cotton and Organic Cotton yarns, as an alternative to plastic. Colorful, soft and strong they will be fun to use.
Our oceans are dying and plastic ending up in them and being consumed by ocean animals from the tinest organisms to whales are a large part of the problem. A sea turtle can mistake a plastic bag for a jellyfish and die. Many young albatross are found dead with their stomachs full of plastic. A dead whale had over 100 plastic bags in its stomach. Dangerous chemicals are attracted to the plastic and move up the food chain, increasing in strength creating a human health hazard for anyone consuming fish.
